Saigon Nights

And so... a really good day! Creativity is prevalent and thriving. NEW VIDEO to a song that is close to Dennis Magnusen's heart. He wrote and performed this song with passion. One thing I know about this song is the significance to Denny and his commitment to PEACE is strong. He begins every single singing session at the mic with "Saigon Nights". It expresses his sadness and yet a power that arises to say NO to WAR. Denny has understood the sadness of war since he was 20 years old. He saw what war does to children, as many know because he has expressed that. That's why he became a teacher! He wanted to spread a different message than hopelessness laced with aggression. He wanted to show youth that there was and is another way. The very day he landed in Vietnam, he got it. He told me he looked around on the day he landed and understood it was all BS for a government's folly. The Vietnam war stole his youth and optimism about life. You cannot take a young man, put them in the circumstance of a wrong war, and not expect him not to cry out... "NO WAR".
Both Denny and I would so appreciate a thumbs up on YouTube and here on FB, that you subscribe and/or SHARE. And of course, we would LOVE any COMMENTS. THANK YOU!
PEACE

And HERE ARE THE LYRICS:
Saigon Nights
Saigon, TET 1968.
Written and performed by Dennis G Magnusen, Vocals & Guitar.
Video produced by Tiffany Wolff
LYRICS:
We take a step walking side by side
Saigon nights are mighty fine
we don't feel no pain, no pain tonight
take a few hits at the big 'O' den
papasan's tea is in us again
we don't feel no pain, no pain tonight
and the lights in the sky look a little better tonight
American planes flying up in the sky
children down below, they learn how to die
but they feel no pain, no pain tonight
rockets flying close over my head
night flares drop lighting up the dead
but they feel no pain, no pain tonight
and the lights in the sky look a little closer tonight
Twenty years come and go like that
hard to say just where I'm at
but I feel no pain, no pain tonight
tunnel light burning straight ahead
a few more steps I'm nearly dead
but I feel no pain, no pain tonight
and the lights in the sky starting to fade tonight
We take a step walking side by side
Saigon nights are mighty fine
we don't feel no pain, no pain tonight
take a few hits at the big 'O' den
papasan's tea is in us again
we don't feel no pain, no pain tonight
and the lights in the sky starting to fade tonight
and the lights in the sky starting to fade tonight

Let it Rain

NEW SONG, "LET IT RAIN", by Dennis Magnusen

At the opening of this video, there is a pic of Denny right before going to Vietnam.  Looking at that image you will see that he was just a CHILD.  It is amazing to think that America sent *CHILDREN* to fight in a war that made no sense.

Children were drafted right out of high school.  Those who fought in Vietnam were considered to be the most educated and intelligent soldiers to fight in a war.

Rest in Peace, to those who gave their lives to a cause that had no clear reasoning except medals, money and misplaced pride.

Deepest sorrow to those who continue to suffer, due to Agent Orange, and that includes the songwriter and singer of this song, "Let it Rain",  Dennis Magnusen.

Please give "Let it Rain" a listen, then a thumbs up on YouTube. Subscribe if you can too & of course SHARE.

Here too below is an open message to the creators of this video for Denny's song, "Let it Rain".  Denny expresses his thankfulness to them and also his efforts in songwriting expressing PEACE.

Tiffany and Duan,

I woke up this morning, all I could think about was your efforts on LIR, how you guys just nailed the video, then got it on YouTube. A great way to wake up just focusing on something so wonderful, I played it on the tv to better see the video, very touching for sure. I then sent it to a veteran buddy who has helped me a lot, he was 'blown away', he liked it very much.

I feel totally elated. How do I thank you for helping in getting my song out? As a songwriter, I just wanted my song to get out there. As a Vietnam Vet Songwriter, I want people to know what happens when they send someone off to war. I feel I am a messenger. I am a man of peace.

So you see, you have helped me to achieve one of my life's goals, that's huge. That is why I wanted your names to be attached. You guys are now deeply embedded into my heart.

Peace, D.

Palm Springs Veteran's Parade 2015 ~PEACE!

PEACE! Denny Dennis Magnusen and I at the Palm Springs Veterans Day Parade. These pics were right before and right after the parade. I have to say this was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Such a great day!Kelly Ostman-Colucci took these pics. Both Kelly and Robert Smith pushed Denny, as did I. Anna Bowen Smith and I both carried flags for PEACE.
People were so receptive. Denny truly came alive as he waved peace signs to the crowd. It was fantastic. I had no idea it would be so incredible. We did have one elderly small woman in our group attacked, actually hit, by some whacko guy in the beginning, but after that all was beautiful and PEACE-ful!
Remember all, to a Vietnam Vet tell them "WELCOME HOME", instead of "Thank you for your service." As Denny says, they just wanted to go home and be welcomed back home.

PICS: Dennis Magnusen and Kathy Ostman-Magnusen at Palm Springs Veterans Day Parade marching with Vietnam Vets Against the War, for PEACE and The League of the Silver Rose, who honors Vietnam Vets affected by Agent Orange.

"Leaving Lily" 12x6x3 mixed medium on canvas by Kathy Ostman-Magnusen

A few small works with epoxy clay.

"Bleeding Wings 5" by Kathy Ostman-Magnusen

My kiln is coming soon. I am making room for it. Wow, finally I will be able to fire my "Bleeding Wings" sculptures.

I have sooo much to do!! I am starting an anatomy class at Watts Atelier of the Arts on the 14th; taking an online drawing class with Matthew Archambault of whom and which I totally LOVE; while trying to work on my new ideas with epoxy clay on canvas for Monkdogs Urban Arts in New York. On my list of to do are to redo my websites and combine all onto one. I think I am just going to get rid of the long url and stick with kathysart.com. Besides I worked like a crazy woman getting google to notice that website, so I might as well take advantage of that. Both the classes were prompted by my amazing artist friend Sheila Wolk. She encouraged me to take an anatomy class. Thank you Sheila. I continue on with my "Bleeding Wings"sculpture series of course.

Here are the links of the schools and my "Bleeding Wings" UTube. I'll need to make a new UTube as soon as all is fired and finished. I am thinking about a white/marble like patina. Humm thinking, thinking.

Happy today to all, Kathy

Paper Wings and a Tiny Fairy

"Paper Wings and a Tiny Fairy" 16x22 graphite on paper by Kathy Ostman-Magnusen

Drawings and sketches help refine the artist's eye. I need to do more! I keep thinking about the curiosity of Leonardo da Vinci, who took a sketchbook everywhere he went. Time to begin that again is now. smile.. yes. Tiny fairies, drawings of dragons, drawings of my thumb even, yes to all, yes to drawing more and asking more questions about life and curious things.
